Josh Grider and Drew Kennedy
July 19 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
On his latest record Good People, the New Mexico native turns the lessons he’s learned so far into an impressive collection of catchy, substantive country tunes — the kind that draw parallels between Grider and artists like Kacey Musgraves and Steve Earle. But Grider delivers them with a smooth neo-traditional baritone to rival Joe Nichols and melodic hooks that, when they hit you just right, feel timeless on first listen. Lead single “Good People” is the perfect example. It’s Grider’s reminder to himself that, no matter all the tragedy we see on our TV screens, there are so many good people outnumbering the bad.
Drew released his eighth album, called At Home in the Big Lonesome, in late 2017, and it has garnered rave reviews and the top spot on many “Best of 2017” lists. Galleywinter wrote, “You fall into the wondrous rush of his words and melodies until you yourself end up in that desolate, descriptive place Kennedy has created. It’s transcendent work on the level of Clark, Van Zandt and Keen.” Drew lives in New Braunfels, Texas with his wife, two sons, three dogs, a cat, and a generous school of fish that he tries not to forget to feed when his wife assigns the task (the fish, that is… the dogs let him know if he’s forgetting about them in their unmistakable way).
